Review K 2010: Sustainable plastics processing with ultrasound

After two K-free years the time had come again: on 27th October 2010 the International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber opened its doors again for a trade gathering, the like of which is unmatched anywhere in the world. One of the principal themes of this year’s K was ‘Sustainability in the processing of plastics’. On this subject SONOTRONIC presented ‘Sustainable plastics processing’ in Hall 11 to an interested audience from the automotive, packaging and textile industries under the catch words, GREEN SONICS.

Review K 2010: Sustainable plastics processing with ultrasound

SONOTRONIC at the K 2010 trade fair

At our stand, visitors from all over the world learned about our current concepts and developments in special machines and automatic robotic systems for ultrasonic welding, riveting and punching of plastic components inside and outside motor vehicles. Using live presentations, we demonstrated to visitors the power and benefits of our ultrasound technologies, by welding and blanking leaf outlines through wetted films on our standard machines in one process. Alongside this, we produced completely tear-proof luggage straps using ultrasound.

K 2010K 2010 Our exhibition of ultrasonic components also aroused great interest. For timed processes we have expanded our previous 20 kHz and 35 kHz technology with the 30 kHz frequency, so as to meet the requirements and needs of our customers on a more individual basis.
To demonstrate continuous welding and cutting, we exhibited our roll seam module, which fascinated many visitors. Roll seam technology can be used not only in the textile industry to join or separate man-made fibres but also in other industries for processing thermoplastic materials, where continuous welds or cleanly sealed cut edges are required.

K 2010SONOTRONIC also presented itself at K as a competent development partner and systems supplier in packaging technology. In addition to the modular sonotrode bench exhibited, with its flat welding area, visitors were particularly interested in the projects we have already completed and in the potential of ultrasound for sealing, welding or separating packaging. Sustainability was also a hot topic here, because GREEN SONICS technology is ecologically and economically significant in packaging technology:  in addition to lower energy consumption compared with processes that use heat (1/4 of the electrical energy requirement = 75 % less CO2 pollution) and less packaging material, GREEN SONICS supports the DMAIC Six-Sigma core process with significantly less defective production.

After eight busy and very well attended days the K ended on 3rd November 2011, proving that K 2011 has exceeded all expectations. SONOTRONIC will also be represented at various trade fairs in 2012. We look forward to welcoming you to our stand again.
